Importance Of Skincare For Men
Men’s skincare is a topic that has been gaining more attention in recent years. Many men are now realizing the importance of taking care of their skin. The skin of most men is thicker and oilier than that of women, making it more prone to acne, blackheads, and other skin conditions. A proper skin care routine can help prevent these issues by keeping the skin clean and hydrated. It also removes dead cells from the skin’s surface.
AGLS offers a Complimentary Consultation for Men who want to improve their skincare regimen. During the consultation, our aestheticians will assess your skin type and determine which treatment options are best suited to your needs. These may include facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, or injectables such as Botox or dermal fillers.
At AGLS, we provide guidance to all our clients on how to maintain healthy skin at home with products specifically designed for men’s unique skin concerns. By incorporating these products into your daily routine, you can keep your complexions looking youthful and fresh while avoiding common issues like acne or dryness.
Overall, taking care of your skin is essential regardless of gender. With expert guidance from medical aesthetic professionals at AGLS, men can learn how to properly care for their skin and enjoy the benefits that come with a healthy-looking complexion.
Common Skin Concerns That Men Face
Men’s skin is different from women’s and thus requires specific care. Men often face several skin concerns that are more common with their gender.
Razor Bumps
One common issue for men is razor bumps caused by shaving, especially for those with coarse hair or sensitive skin. This condition can be painful and leave unsightly marks on the face, neck, or other body parts.
Acne Breakouts
Another problem faced by men is acne breakouts due to excess oil production in the sebaceous glands. This concern affects men of all ages and can result in scars if left untreated. In addition, men often suffer from dry and flaky skin due to external factors such as harsh weather conditions, air pollution, or excessive use of soap.
To combat these issues effectively, it’s essential for men to adopt a personalized skincare routine that suits their specific needs. AGLS offers a Complimentary Consultation for men who want to achieve healthy and glowing skin while addressing their individual concerns. With expert guidance and customized treatment options, men can enjoy smooth and clear skin that enhances their appearance.
Understanding Skin Types
At AGLS we categorize skin into 5 types: normal, dry, oily, combination (both oily and dry skin), and sensitive. The following are the main characteristics of each of these types.
NORMAL SKIN
Skin types that are neither too oily nor too dry are classified as normal skin. They have fewer imperfections and a consistent texture, in addition to a soft appearance, therefore, requiring minimal specialized care.
SENSITIVE SKIN
Sensitive skin is more likely to react to stimuli compared to normal skin. Sensitive skins are delicate, which results in feelings of discomfort which are described as sensations of heat, tightness, redness, and itching. These skins lose their protective properties which makes them more susceptible to microorganisms and irritant substances resulting in a higher chance of infection and allergic reaction. Therefore they require more care to fight dryness, and roughness, and maintain a healthy appearance.
Sensitive skin is also referred to as irritated skin, however, these terms are symptoms and there is no dermatological difference between them which means the treatment required for them is the same.
DRY SKIN
Dry skin, unlike other skin types, is not always determined by genetics but is also caused by environmental factors such as the weather, low air humidity, and immersion in hot water. Although dry skin is temporary in most cases, for some people it occurs more frequently and can even be a lifelong condition. Since dry skin can crack, it can make people more vulnerable to bacteria, which can then lead to skin disorders such as eczema, or other infections if not timely treated.
Signs and symptoms for this condition are determined by individual factors such as age, underlying health conditions, or their causes. Dry skin is identified by tightness and roughness in the area. In some cases the skin can also turn gray, and the discoloration is accompanied by desquamation, itching, redness, and small cracks. In severe cases, the cracked skin can be very deep and even bleed.
Atopic skin is a skin condition marked by dry skin that becomes irritated and desquamates, which results in distressing symptoms including itching. The primary cause is a genetic predisposition, while other factors including environmental circumstances, allergic reactions, food-related issues, and even certain clothing may cause it to manifest or make it worse.
OILY SKIN
Skins that are abundant in pores, and have a bright and humid appearance are referred to as oily skin. This appearance is caused by excessive fat production by the sebaceous glands, and is usually caused by genetic and/or hormonal factors. This skin type is common in adolescents and young people under the age of 30, and is accompanied by the appearance of acne.
COMBINATION SKIN
Due to the distribution of sebaceous and sweat glands not being homogeneous, combination skin has characteristics of both dry and oily skin. Regions with more oil usually fall within the T-zone, which includes the forehead, nose, and chin, while the skin on the cheeks is normal or dry.
